From the Police Review, 1st January 1915: “PC Welcome Fred Hills was born at Wrotham, Kent. He joined the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards on January 13th 1903 and transferred to the Army Reserve on August 5th last. He was killed in action whilst serving with the Expeditionary Force in France between September 14th and 16th. He leaves a widow and one child”.
