From the Police Review, 1st January 1915: “PC Welcome Fred Hills was born at Wrotham, Kent. He joined the 2^nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards on January 13^th 1903 and transferred to the Army Reserve on August 5^th last. He was killed in action whilst serving with the Expeditionary Force in France between September 14^th and 16^th. He leaves a widow and one child”.
