From the Police Review, 1915: “PC Thomas George Shelton Meheux, was born at Chiswick London. He joined the Royal Navy on 5 January 1905 and was transferred to the Naval Reserve on May 19th 1913, joining the City of London Police on 24 July of the same year. He was recalled for active service on August 3rd last and was drowned in action on October 15 while serving on HMS Hawke. Deceased had made all arrangements to be married on August 8 last (1914), but owing to being called up on Reserve was unable to do so …. (he) had made all arrangements for his marriage, the banns having been published, a little flat rented and the furniture purchased. The ceremony was to have been performed on the Saturday in the week that he was called upon to defend his country and was thus necessarily postponed”.
